PRESENTATION:
Canada and Canadian Civic Community in the Bay Area

Many tens of thousands of Canadians live in Silicon Valley, often serving as a helpful entry-point for Canadian stakeholders advancing interests in the region.  Although the Canadian Consulate is still the main gateway for Canadian stakeholders, in recent years Non-Government Organizations and provincial governments have grown more active: BC, Quebec, and Ontario have opened offices; the C100 and the Digital Moose Lounge, two nonprofit networks of expat Canadians, have expanded their activities; and Canadian universities have moved beyond alumni events to more active programming.  This presentation considers the evolving relationship between Canada, the provinces, and the Canadian diaspora in Silicon Valley.  It also compares the Canadian example with other country diaspora networks in the region.  What are the evolving opportunities and risks for Canada?
