PROGRAM:

Virginia Ernster spent her career as an epidemiologist on the faulty of UCSF School of Medicine. She also was the Associate Director of UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is now retired and a docent at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. She loves sharing works of art and the stories behind them -- with tours of the museums and speaking engagements -- to the community. Her presentation will be Monet: The Late Years.

Once again, Suzan Devetlian of L’Vian boutique in Burlingame is graciously providing the models’ clothes and actively helping to make this another successful event!  Some of our lovely Canadian Women's Club members and Consulate staffers will be modeling for us.  Raffle with lovely prizes – tickets available at the door.

PROGRAM: 

Our speaker was Martha Ryan, founder and executive director of the Homeless Prenatal Program.
Martha was a shelter volunteer in San Francisco three decades ago, referring homeless pregnant
women to services around the city. Back then, Ryan had no idea of the role she would later play in
improving the lives of thousands of people and their descendants. Martha is one of six finalists for
Visionary of the Year, an annual recognition by The Chronicle of Bay Area leaders whose work
improves the world. Read her story.

PROGRAM:

The speaker was John Knox, Executive Director Emeritus, Earth Island Institute (EII). Earth Island was founded in 1982 by legendary environmentalist David Brower. For more than three decades, Earth Island has been the organizational home to more than 200 grassroots environmental action projects and currently has a vibrant network of more than 75 projects.

They provide comprehensive fiscal sponsorship and project support to a vibrant network of activists and social entrepreneurs. In the tradition of their founder David Brower, they recognize and support the next generation of young leaders, and inspire people to get involved and take action.

Their New Leaders Initiative mentors young people and sponsors the annual Brower Youth Awards to recognize tomorrow's environmental leaders. They publish the award-winning Earth Island Journal to inspire and educate, and their new Earth Island Advocates program utilizes legal strategies to stand up for wild places, wildlife, and our hard-won environmental protection laws.

Our speaker was Anne Evers Hitz, a fifth-generation San Franciscan who gathered together images from libraries and private collections to tell the story of San Francisco's Ferry Building.

Program:

Our speaker was Jennifer Stojkovic, a Canadian, and the Executive Director of sfciti.org, an organization that connects with San Francisco’s tech leaders, nonprofit organizations, and city policymakers.  sf.citi advocates innovation and collaboration to create meaningful change around pressing issues affecting the San Francisco community.


They represent the tech sector in conversation with city policymakers and engage their member companies around projects that serve the larger San Francisco community.  Most importantly, they take a “One City” approach to everything they do –- building a shared sense of community and civic responsibility between San Francisco’s technology companies and its residents.

Program: Our speaker was Colonel Fred Rutledge, President of the Royal Canadian Legion, San Francisco Branch 25 and a member of the branch for over 35 years.
He is a fourth generation native Californian. He retired from the Army Reserve as a Lieutenant-Colonel in 2007 with over 27 years of service and promptly joined the California State Military Reserve and the California Center for Military History.
